PUBLIC ART

Short Bio Here:

FOUR CORNERS

Four Corners Public Arts was initiated in 2019 through a public/private partnership convened to support public arts initiatives in Newark’s Four Corners Historic District. The partnership includes The City of Newark, Invest Newark, Newark Arts, Newark Downtown District, Paramount Assets, and RBH Group. The partnership evolved out of a common interest to give care to under-acknowledged areas of the City through the arts, with the goal of cultivating creative communal space for everyone. At a time when Newark was undergoing a marked transformation, the partnership believed it was imperative to create opportunities that strengthen the local creative community.

PROJECT FOR EMPTY SPACE

Project for Empty Space (PES) is a multifaceted arts organization that includes Exhibitions, Artists Residencies, Public Art initiatives, subsidized Artist Studios, and Artist Professional Development/ Granting opportunities. Our programs lean into social discourse, including narratives that have been historically and systemically erased. We strive to course-correct historic instances of forced marginality, in-equity, and in-visibility. Today, in our efforts to support socially-oriented artists, we maintain a commitment to holding space for both looking back and looking to new potentials and futures.

GATEWAYS TO NEWARK

Gateways to Newark: Portraits is one of the largest public art projects on the East Coast, transforming 1.34 miles of Newark’s McCarter Highway into a vibrant outdoor gallery. Originally launched in 2016, the project brought together more than a dozen local, national, and international artists to create large-scale murals that reflect Newark’s rich history, diverse communities, and spirit of resilience.

NEWARK PENN STATION

NJ TRANSIT's Transit Arts Program is based on the philosophy that art is essential to the overall transportation experience. Carefully, planned and conceived, art is woven into the design, resulting in a more enjoyable and efficient transportation experience.

The program was created to integrate artwork into the architectural design of transit facilities, creating inspirational places that improve the riding experience for customers and enhance the beauty of public spaces within communities. The Transit Arts Program was piloted with the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail project in 1994 and became a corporate-wide program in 1996. Today, NJ TRANSIT has more than 150 art installations through our transporation systems.
